If people call somebody creative, then in most cases, because they are artistic. At least that is, what I would probably first think of. But what even is being creative and creativity? Is it just having an artistic talent? If you start thinking more about it, you realize, it’s not. And if you start searching for its origin you know even better; the word creativity has its origin in the latin word “creare”, which means “make, give birth”. As you see creativity is thinking of something new and making something new. So you can find creativity in everything and everybody. Maybe not everybody has an “equal amount“ of creativity, if that even exist, but everybody is creative, in their own way. Being creative does not just mean somebody is artistic. I would define it by saying that creativity is the act of turning new and imaginative ideas into reality. If you have ideas but don’t act on them, you are imaginative, but not creative. As you can see, it’s very easy to mix creativity and imagination up. Creativity is more about actually doing and working on something. It’s something that grows in you by just living. You can find your own creativity in other people’s creativity. You can find your creativity by being inspired by buildings with, for example, special windows, by the food you’re eating, because the cook in that restaurant tried something new, by somebody’s outfit you’re seeing on the street. And with all those things you’re getting inspired and your own creativity grows unconsciously. Creativity is having new ideas and working on your visions. It’s about your own interpretation into things. Creativity has a lot of different forms; painting, making crafts, designing, building/constructing, cooking, sewing, etc. Actually it’s not only one thing that creativity is or is defined by, you can find creativity in everything and actually everything is creativity. There was no TV until someone had an idea of something like that and then actually worked on his idea and made it reality. Everything was once just an idea of people’s creativity.
In my opinion, that you are creative means, that you have thousands of new and different thoughts and you’re not even able to finish one thought, because you’re already thinking of something new. You’re not thinking about what you can achieve with your thoughts and ideas. You’re not thinking of making money or getting famous. Your first thought, if you have an idea is making it to reality, that it’s actually there and you can touch it or face it and you know: “That was my idea. I made this and it’s actually there. And it’s reality because of me.” Every little thing that exists in our world right now was arosed by people’s creativity.
In my opinion creativity is characterized by the ability to perceive the world in new ways, to find hidden patterns, to make connections between seemingly unrelated phenomena, and to generate solutions. Creativity involves two processes: thinking, then producing.
